  1. « 10 mois, c’est long ! »“10 months is a long time!”

It’s true that ten months can seem like a long time, but above all it’s an enriching, unique experience that builds a strong bond with the dog. Plus, those months go by very quickly thanks to the daily activities and the dog’s visible progress.

  2. « Je ne suis pas sûr(e) d’avoir le temps de m’en occuper. »“I’m not sure I’ll have time to look after it.”

The commitment is flexible: you just need to set aside a few moments each day. The coordinators also give you support and advice so that looking after the dog fits easily into your routine.

»“I’ll have to buy all the dog supplies.”

Actually, the food is provided and some equipment can be lent or reimbursed. It’s a tiny investment compared with the human and emotional rewards you’ll get out of it.

»“I’ll have to set up a space for it at home.”

A small, comfortable corner is enough, and it helps the dog feel good without disrupting your daily routine.

The dogs are checked regularly by professionals, and major care is covered by the organization. The foster family usually has very few extra expenses.

  6. « C’est beaucoup de responsabilités. »“It’s a lot of responsibility.”

It is, but it’s also a chance to learn patience, organization and empathy. Every effort is more than rewarded by the satisfaction of contributing to a useful, humane project.

»“I’m afraid I won’t manage to teach it what it needs to do.”

Specialized trainers support you the whole time: you’re never on your own, and every instruction is clearly explained so the dog progresses step by step.

  8. « Je ne pourrai plus partir en vacances. »“I won’t be able to go on holiday any more.”

You can plan your time away in agreement with the organization, and some weekends can be arranged to give you a bit of freedom.

»“It’s a real job, there are professional dog trainers.”

True, but the foster family plays a unique role: it socializes the dog in an everyday setting, which a professional trainer alone can’t do.

»“It’ll be really hard to leave it after 10 months…”

That’s true, you get attached easily, but the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping a blind person live more independently far outweighs the sadness of saying goodbye.
