How much does TEF Canada cost?
Each test centre sets its own fee. Two examples, as of November 2026:
| Centre | All four tests |
|---|---|
| Alliance Française de Toronto | CA$390 |
| Alliance Française du Bengale, Kolkata | ₹26,000 with GST |
Kolkata prices the parts separately: ₹13,000 for listening and reading, ₹6,500 each for writing and speaking. Check your own centre before you pay.
How to book
- Find a centre on CCI Paris's site. Many are Alliance Française branches.
- Register online with that centre, choosing TEF Canada (not TEF Québec) and all four tests if you need them for permanent residence.
- Book early. Sessions fill, and some centres keep no waiting list.
Read the centre's rules before paying. Toronto, for one, gives no refunds, allows a move to another date up to 15 days before for $100, and lets you hold one booking at a time.
On the day
Bring a valid photo ID showing your date of birth, and your invitation. All four tests are on the same day. The exam format guide has the timing and the rules.
When do results come out?
CCI Paris sends results within 1 to 10 business days; some centres quote up to 15 days. You get an email with a link to download your certificate. There is no paper copy, so check your spam folder if it is late.
How long are results valid?
Two years from the date of issue. For Express Entry, IRCC wants them under two years old both when you create your profile and when you apply for permanent residence. Results that expire in between mean a refused application, so plan around that date.
Entering your results with IRCC
- Use only the Équivalence ancien score column, not the scores out of 699.
- The certificate number is the part of the attestation number before the hyphen; the PIN is the part after.
The scores for each NCLC level are in the listening scores guide and its three siblings.
Can you retake it?
As many times as you like, 20 days apart. Results cannot be renewed, so a retake is also how you replace an expiring one.
